Immersive Shooter’s Editor-At-Large Robert Hernandez likes to call Michael Mansouri the “Willy Wonka” of film innovation.
Michael, who is the co-founder of Radiant Images, is an interesting hybrid in the industry who both helps content creators make amazing content AND camera manufacturers like Z Cam, Insta360 and others, meet the needs of filmmakers.
“What’s next [in VR] is only determined by peoples’ imaginations,” Michael said during our live show at Teradek’s booth at NAB 2017. “VR at times has been captured as real life, but there are content creators that dream beyond that and we want to celebrate that. That’s our entire mission.”
That’s where he said Radiant Images comes in, to give content creators a sense of security to takeIndividual instance of a shot; a take = each time the camera is started and stopped. chances on amazing, larger than life concepts without fear of failure.
Although Michael has played with just about every 360 camera out there, he’s hesitant to suggest any one camera over the other.
“There’s no one-in-a-box solution,” he said. “They all have a purpose, but it depends on what you want to do. If you pick only one camera, your solutions will be less broad.”
One suggestion he does have when selecting a camera is to think about your delivery method—which platforms will it live on and how will people consume it—and let those factors narrow your search.
But the key takeaway from our conversation with Michael is that if you can imagine it, it’s possible. Radiant Images really is a world of pure imagination.
