Jaunt, a global partner for producing and distributing immersive virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality content, has announced that it will be sunsetting its Jaunt Cloud Services on May 9, 2018. Jaunt Cloud Services, or JCS, is a secure, cloud-based asset management, stitching and rendering tool for 360º video.
Current customers will have until then to finish ongoing projects and retain any assets currently being stored on JCS. Anything remaining on JCS will be permanently deleted after May 9.
The 60-day window from the time of the announcement on March 10 will also give current customers a chance to use up existing render units. Jaunt will also automatically refund customers with unused JCS render units on May 9.
According to Jaunt’s announcement email, this change is a result of the growth of new options available to content creators.
“At Jaunt’s core we’ve always been focused on the production and distribution of immersive content. Along the way we found it necessary to build content creation tools, and we decided to make these tools available to the VR community,” the company said in its announcement email. “We now feel that the market for VR production has greatly matured, with numerous options available for creators seeking professional production workflows. As a result, we are shifting all of our focus back to the creation of next generation immersive distribution technologies and the production of XR content.”
Jaunt suggested owners of its Jaunt ONE camera use Mistika VR to stitch footage shot on the camera after the closure of JCS and has shared this Alternative Workflow Document.
