It’s a great day to be in the VR industry!
According to data provided by freelancing website Upwork, VR is the fastest-growing skill for online freelancers.
This time last year, only 106 individuals listed VR as one of their skills, but now more than 2,500 freelancers on the site list VR as one of their skills. Billings for VR projects also increased–30-fold–over the past year.
The other fastest-growing skills include natural language processing (2), econometrics (3), learning management systems (4), and neural networks (5). You can see the full list here.
And, in a report about the landscape of VR in Europe, released by The Venture Reality Fund and Belgium’s LucidWeb, the number of VR companies in Europe has grown from 300 to 487–and that’s just since February of this year.
Although the companies are spread throughut Europe, the U.K. is home the the largest number, 46, with 29 in France, 19 in Sweden and 15 in Germany. This includes companies making infrastructure, tools, platforms and apps.
The Venture Reality Fund and LucidWeb plan to continue to publish this report twice per year to monitor VR’s growth throughout Europe.
