Shooting a solid bullet time isn’t as easy as swinging a 360 camera around your head. You have to have a good use case, the right string or selfie stick, and the right speed.

In this video with Photo Gear News, Lok Cheung and I took the Insta360 One out to a London park to perfect the art of bullet time.

Here are a few tips:

  • Do not use a woven string, like the one that came with the first batch of Insta360 One cameras. Use fishing line or craft wire instead to prevent rotation of the camera.
  • Or, better yet, use the special Insta360 One selfie stick!
  • Your string or selfie stick should be about 1 meter long.
  • And, Insta360 recommends swinging the camera at a speed of one revolution per second.

It’s also important to have the right subject matter for the shoot. And sometimes, that requires a buddy to throw extra leaves or shoot the Nerf gun 😉
